God’s Plans Revealed

Luke: The Person and Mission of Jesus / Praise; Gospel; Salvation / Luke 1:67-80; Joel 2:28; Micah 7:20; Psalm 105;8-9; Genesis 22:16-17; 1 Samuel 2:1; Ezekiel 29:21 

In response to God's work in his life, Zechariah proclaims the fulfillment of God's covenant promise to His people. He speaks to John's mission in preparing the way for Jesus. Our call is similar in that we are to proclaim God's work in our lives and introducing others to the person of Jesus. 

Preparing the way for Jesus

God gave Zechariah and Elizabeth specific details and instructions about their son.  John was to prepare the way for Jesus. Our ability to hear and obey God also prepares the way for Jesus. Because they listened, their community was in awe of God's work. Our communities will also experience God through our obedience.

Experiencing the Holy Spirit

Obedience to God's commands always lead to God exclusive activity. Mary and Elizabeth experienced the blessing of God's presence as they obeyed God. 

Experiencing The Holy Spirit

Immanuel

Luke: The Person and Mission of Jesus / Faith; Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ / Luke 1:26-38; Acts 7:48; 2 Samuel 7:12-13; 2 Samuel 7:16; Exodus 19:3; Isaiah 9:6; Daniel 7:14

God had promised Adam and Eve that one of their heirs would finally be able to break the curse of sin. Luke tells how God revealed to Mary that she would give birth to that heir. Jesus, the Son of God, would be their son. Mary believes and willingly offers herself to God. 

A Voice In The Wilderness

Luke: The Person and Mission of Jesus /  Unbelief; Faith / Luke 1:5-25; Kinds 8:10-11; Malachi 3:1; Malachi 4:5-6; Matthew 11:14; Matthew 5:16 

 

In his opening narrative, Luke begins to show that Jesus was the Messiah. This question still rings in the hearts of minds today, and we can discover who Jesus is together. As we experience God others will take notice and be drawn to Jesus. Our lives become "A voice in the wilderness."
